The Power of Etymology and Morphology

Home » Our Services » Training » Learning Capsules » The Power of Etymology and Morphology

How knowledge improves spelling.

English orthography is not a failed phonetic transcription system, but rather it is a complex system that preserves history (etymology), with word parts providing layers of meaning (morphology). Dr Fawcett considers how a knowledge of etymology and morphology facilitates improved spelling and simultaneously develops participants’ knowledge in this area.

Ideal for

Teacher aides, teachers, Learning Support Coordinators, SENCO, RTLB, RT-LIT and all others seeking greater knowledge on our literacy landscape.

Delivery method

A recorded presentation from SPELD NZ’s Lifting Literacy conference – approximately 1 hour 12 minutes long.  PowerPoint notes are provided.
