Take a deeper dive into dyscalculia and other maths learning difficulties

This is an invaluable opportunity to boost your learning kete to help those struggling with numbers, especially those with dyscalculia. This specific learning disability affects around six percent of the population, yet educators have had little training in how to recognise or support it.

Learning Outcomes

 

  • Understand the nature of mathematics learning difficulties: Explore their underlying causes, the ways they present in the classroom and their impact on a learner’s academic progress and confidence.
  • Learn practical, evidence-informed teaching strategies and appropriate accommodations, enabling better support for learners through effective instruction, scaffolding, and inclusive practice.

Ideal for

Primary and secondary school teachers, teaching assistants/teacher aides, Learning Support Coordinators, SENCO, RTLB and all others (including parents/caregivers) seeking greater knowledge on ways to understand and support those struggling with maths learning difficulties.

Delivery Method

Approximately six hours of reading, videos, activities and self-checking quizzes, in five parts:

  • Framework for Effective Learning
  • The Impact of Dyslexia on Maths Ability
  • The Impact of Dyscalculia on Maths Ability
  • Approaches to Teaching for Learners with Maths Difficulties
  • Accommodations to Support Learners with Maths Difficulties

A certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete all five sections.

Cost

$160 incl GST
NB: SPELD NZ is passionate about upskilling on dyscalculia and other maths learning difficulties, and may be able to provide a subsidy to reduce the cost of this Kōwae Ako. These subsidies are subject to availability – please check with us for details.

Enrolment

SPELD NZ professionals enrol via Moodle using their usual login details and clicking on the Webinars/Kōwae Ako tile.

For all others, please go via the enrolment portal below.  It will ask you to create your own login, if you do not already have one. You can then choose your Learning Capsule/Kōwae Ako. You will be given 21-day access to this Learning Capsule/Kōwae Ako as soon as you have made payment via credit or debit card.
